Rick Hendrick Purchased VIN 001 ZR1; Proceeds Support the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation

Rick Hendrick, chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of 12-time NASCAR Cup Series champions Hendrick Motorsports, purchased VIN 001 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 at the annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. All auction proceeds will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports wounded veterans through the Building for America’s Bravest program.

The foundation itself was named after New York City firefighter, Stephen Siller, who was among the first responders killed in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. This group provides mortgage-free ‘smart homes’ to the most severely injured US soldiers, allowing them to live a more comfortable life with a home built to accommodate their needs. These homes include automated doors and lighting, wider halls and doorways, showers that accommodate wheelchairs, cabinets, counters and stove tops that can be raised and lowered and HVAC systems that can be controlled from personal devices.

The new Corvette ZR1 is one special vehicle. Powered by the car’s exclusive 6.2-liter LT5 supercharged V8 engine, which is rated at 755 horsepower and 715 foot pounds of torque, this version of ‘America’s Sports Car’ establishes a new performance benchmark. The 2019 Corvette ZR1 has an all-new front fascia, designed to channel air for propulsion system and drivetrain cooling. A special carbon-fiber ‘halo’ hood is open in the middle to make space for then LT5 engine’s supercharger and intercooler assembly. Additional features include two aero package options that include stanchion-mounted wings, each creating increased downforce based on personal driving preferences.
